Description
The island of Sumatra is only one of the 15,000 islands that constitute the Republic of Indonesia, but it comprises one fourth of the total landmass. Coffee from Sumatra, unlike other arabica coffees, is processed by drying the unwashed beans in the sun. This imparts an earthy flavor and finish.
Sumatra makes an outstanding brewed coffee, and is particularly good for espresso, producing a thick, rich crèma. Sumatra coffee has a very low acidity, an unusually heavy-body, and a characteristic earthiness that has made it a favorite throughout the world.
